nonsense. The unbridled lust for power of Muammar Gaddafi in Libya had to drive to the tragedy that now lives. It was impossible to avoid. The people are excited about the almost magical, charismatic leaders who base their prestige in almost inexplicable that ability that allows them to cheat long the humble, creating in hopes of redemption that never arrive, and always end up in regimes that violate civil liberties and human rights. That is more or less the case of this criminal paranoid. The relentless bombing and mass murder of defenseless civilians, caused such a scandal in the international public opinion that it was impossible to avoid the intervention of the Security Council of the United Nations.
The resolution was adopted in practice by all members, permanent or not, the Security Council. The five abstentions, Russia, China, Brazil, Germany and India, were saluting the flag for reasons of form and should not be understood in any way as an endorsement of the intransigent position of Muammar Gaddafi that prevented a deal with sectors of the political opposition. The substance of the decision is transparent and has no doubts: it was declared a no-fly limits the overflight of any aircraft on Libya, but at the same time leaving open the possibility of military use if necessary to force negotiation and limit attacks by mercenaries against Gaddafi's opposition.
A key point to understand the current crisis that the Libyan regime is to analyze the root causes of this popular uprising. These simplistic explanations, as those given in public statements by President Chávez and Foreign Minister Maduro, are totally inadequate and reaffirm what is an ideological commitment. It is true that the popular protest of an alleged imperialist conspiracy intended to split the Libyan territory to control its oil wealth. The problem is much more complex: it originates in the natural weariness of a people in a leadership that has lasted over forty years, without solving the serious problems of cultural backwardness, political and economic development of the Libyan people.
is true that there is a stream of freedom that drives the fight to the Arab people tired of personal and undemocratic regimes, but it is also true that no country reached the levels of repression in Libya. This reality must have an explanation. In my article last week I discussed the subject. The absence in Libya with a modern armed forces, professional and apolitical, made all the difference to the peaceful resolution of the crisis in Egypt and Tunisia. The real power of Muammar Gaddafi and his sons are based on the organization of a national militia made up, quite politicized, and foreign mercenaries who feel that their commitment is not to the Libyan state but with the government and its leader.
The question that must be made Venezuelans to such painful events is whether the Chavez regime's objectives is not copying a power structure similar to that provided by Gaddafi in Libya. It is true that the Venezuelan social and political circumstances are very different, but it is impossible to forget that the military conspiracies eighties and nineties had close ideological ties with that regime. Nor can fail to recall the strong rumor that existed during the 1998 elections on the financial support of Gaddafi 'campaign of Hugo Chávez. If we observe with absolute objectivity, undemocratic regime orientation should start to worry.
is no accident that the regime Chavez has worked to weaken the separation of powers and tightly control the media. Anyway, there are two aspects I wish to stress because I think they are the most consistent evidence of Chavez's ideological closeness to the regime of Gaddafi, Hugo Chavez's tendency to want to go on forever in power and progressive efforts to replace the Force Navy, professional and apolitical orientation, for an organization dominated by the existence of an ideological militia, with the presence of Cuban mercenaries. No clearer blink of an eye. Hopefully, my fellow soldiers appreciate the risks they face Venezuela and its Armed Forces. Respect and enforce the Constitution.
